Fanart Friday: O Human Star by Blue Delliquanti
One of the most beautiful and intelligent webcomics out there, involving queer characters or not, is O Human Star.  It has everything I love in a serial, the neat folding of time jumps from past to present, adult characters in adult relationships, and an instantly immersive fictional universe.
In a still unfolding mystery, Al Sterling finds himself resurrected from the dead in a body of robot technology- the very technology he was perfecting during his life.  Unsure of who brought him back to life, he finds himself deposited at the home of his partner, Brendan, who has known Al as dead for 16 years, but has not spent that time forgetting him. In an imperfect attempt to resurrect Al, Brendan created Sulla, a daughter with Al’s biology but a completely new life.
What I love about O Human Star is it’s neatness- there nothing extraneous in the narrative, it’s tight.  But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a deliberate and varying rhythm. It moves at just the right speed.  With the beautiful art and characters and totally gripping narrative, it easily ranks as one of my favorites.
My fanart is in Holbein Gouache (six colors) on Arches paper, and is a tribute to my favorite character, Brendan.  He is the one who has suffered the most, and my heart breaks for him and everything he’s had to endure.  So I painted a picture of Al and Sulla comforting him.
I really love this comic and I hope you’ll check it out.  O Human Star updates Mon/Thurs at http://ohumanstar.com/
My webcomic is Prince of Cats.  Check out my other Fanart Friday posts here!
