Fanart Friday: BFF

This is a little piece of fanart of the characters from Mickey’s gorgeous webcomic Best Friends 4ever. The end of this chapter just about killed me, ending with the bittersweet, telling looks that my readers know I love so much.

If you are a Prince of Cats reader and you haven’t checked out BFF, you really need to, like right now (I mean, if you aren’t a PoC reader, you should anyway, but…)  because everything you hoped for in the homecoming scene that you didn’t get from me, you will find in BFF.  Well, some of what you hoped for, anyway.  I know how ambitious you guys can be.

Not only is BFF stylistically delightful, but the plot is fun and touching, the characters are precious, and DAMN the use of color, it just.  It kills me.  This comic.  Is great.

About this painting:

This is painted with Holbein gouache on Arches paper.  I wanted to try something stylistically a little different than usual, and I’d say I found some hits and misses in this attempt.  In the next experiment, I’d like to see what I can do for definition with value instead of straight up outlines.

The final page of chapter 10 of BFF has been sitting with me since it went up.  I even listened to the song that the artist linked, and I got inspired.  Originally when I sketched this, they were just kind of draped on one another, and then the kind of inched closer and closer together until they were in a full-on embrace.  Oh well, I thought.  Who’s gonna complain?

I’m so excited for the next chapter!  I’m looking forward to BOYS TALKING ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS.  SOON.  Please?
